Stakeholders in the Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP) has called for calm as the party awaits the verdict of the Supreme Court on the disputed national secretary position.
The Supreme Court, after hearing an appeal filed by Senator Samuel Anyanwu, challenging his ouster by the Court of Appeal, Enugu Division, reserved judgment on the matter.
The Court of Appeal, in a judgment on December 20, 2024, affirmed Sunday Ude-Okoye as the authentic national secretary of the PDP.
The apex court, while reserving judgment in the dispute, dismissed a motion for stay of execution filed by Anyanwu.
However, the stakeholders on the aegies of Conference of Professionals in the Peoples Democratic Party (CP-PDP), in a start by its protem national coordinator,
Obinna Nwachukwu, urged party members to imbibe the spirit of sportsmanship.
The group noted that “the Supreme Court today dismissed the Application filed by Senator Samuel Anyanwu to Stay the Execution of the declaratory judgment of the Court of Appeal which on December 20, 2024, removed Senator Anyanwu and replaced with Hon. S.K.E Ude Okoye as the National Secretary of the PDP.
“The dismissal of the Application by the Supreme Court has further elucidated and affirmed that a declaratory judgement of a Court of competent jurisdiction cannot be stayed under the Nigerian jurisprudence.
“The import of today’s outcome from the Supreme Court is that the December 20, 2024, judgment of the Court of Appeal which removed and replaced Senator Anyanwu with Hon. S.K.E Ude Okoye as the National Secretary of the PDP subsists.
“As a body of professionals, the Conference calls on Party members to remain law-abiding and guided by the spirit of sportsmanship as we join forces to strengthen and reposition our party for the task ahead.”
