National Assembly Unseals Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s Office After Six Months

The National Assembly has officially unsealed the office of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, located in Suite 2.05 of the Senate Wing, after being locked for six months.

A video shared on X by the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) showed Deputy Director of the Sergeant-at-Arms, Alabi Adedeji, carrying out the unsealing exercise on Tuesday on behalf of the Senate.

“To unseal Senator Natasha Akpoti’s office, I, Alabi Adedeji, Deputy Director, Sergeant-at-Arms, hereby unseal the office,” he declared before unlocking the door.

The Kogi Central lawmaker’s office had remained closed following her six-month suspension by the Senate in March 2025. The suspension was imposed after she protested the reallocation of her seat by Senate President Godswill Akpabio on February 20.

Her suspension not only locked her office but also barred her from participating in all activities of the 10th Senate.

Although the suspension expired in September 2025, Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan could not immediately resume legislative duties due to ongoing legal battles and resistance from the Senate leadership.

On July 4, 2025, the Federal High Court in Abuja declared her suspension “excessive and unconstitutional,” ordering that she be allowed to return to her duties.

Following the court ruling, the senator formally wrote to the Senate to notify her intention to resume, but her request was rejected by the National Assembly authorities.

With her office now unsealed, it remains unclear whether Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan will rejoin her colleagues when plenary resumes on Tuesday, October 7, 2025.
