Nathan Tella nominated for Leverkusen award

2 weeks ago 24

Super Eagles forward Nathan Tella has been nominated for Bayer Leverkusen’s Goal of the Month for January, Soccernet.ng reports.

After struggling to become a regular at Bayer Leverkusen last season, Tella has started to get more minutes this season. The Super Eagles star has played in 16 Bundesliga games, scoring one goal and providing one assist.

Tella’s only Bundesliga goal came against Borussia Dortmund on October 10. The 25-year-old forward capitalised on a defensive mix-uo and struck a wicked shot past Gregor Kobel. He scored that goal in the first minute, which set Die Werkself up for a 3-2 win.

In a new development, Bayer Leverkusen have now nominated Tella’s goal as one of the best for January.

The four other nominees are Alejandro Grimaldo for his goal against FSV Mainz, Florian Wirtz goal against Borussia Monchengladbach, and Patrik Schick against RB Leipzig. Of the five goals in contention, Tella’s is obviously top two. He caught the bal on the half volley and struck it from the edge of the box. While the striker was beautiful, Grimaldo has a great shot of winning it, as his goal was from a freekick.

The other three goals were decent, but there was really nothing spectacular. However, the votes will be decided by fans. As such, it will be more of a popularity contest.
