Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, has extended a formal invitation to Senate President Godswill Akpabio and fellow lawmakers to attend a project commissioning event in Kogi State, marking her second anniversary in the upper chamber just over a month after returning from a six-month suspension.
During Thursday’s plenary session, Akpabio read the invitation letter aloud to the senators. The event is scheduled for Sunday, November 2, in Ihima, Kogi State.
“In marking my second-year anniversary as a serving senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, I wish to invite fellow distinguished senators to join me for project commissioning in Kogi state,” the letter stated.
Akpoti-Uduaghan specified the meeting point as her residence at Plot 101, Jimoh Akpoti Street, Ihima, Okene, Kogi State. Senators traveling by air were advised to land at the Obajana airstrip before proceeding by road.
Following the reading, Akpabio congratulated the senator on her milestone. The invitation comes amid Akpoti-Uduaghan’s gradual reintegration into legislative duties since resuming on September 24.
Her suspension, imposed on March 6 by the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions, stemmed from a February 20 heated exchange with Akpabio over seating arrangements. She had subsequently accused the Senate President of sexual harassment, a claim he denied.
Since her return, the senator has remained active: attending a legislative retreat by the Ministry of Solid Minerals Development on October 18 and sponsoring a bill earlier today to establish a National Centre for Autism and six zonal centers nationwide.
The proposed legislation aims to enhance early diagnosis, research, education, and care for individuals with autism spectrum disorders (ASD).
The upcoming event signals a potential thaw in relations and highlights Akpoti-Uduaghan’s focus on constituency development.
