The provost of the newly established Zinnia college of Health, science and technology, Keffi in Nassawa state, Dr. Sabiu Adamu, has said the institution has since fulfilled all the necessary requirements for the take-off of all its courses and has applied for their full accreditation through the necessary regulatory bodies.
He stated this during an interview in his office at the college Thursday.
According to the provost, the college which was established just a year ago, pricisely in March, 2024 with only 11 students has so far, more than 100 of them.
He said the school has introduced up to six essential health care delivery courses such as pharmacy technician, public health, environmental health, community health, medical health technology, medical laboratory and health information management.
He said, “I want to also inform you that so far we have applied for the accreditation of all our courses we are now waiting for the respective regulatory bodies to come for inspection, but as for the state we have their approval already and that of the local government as well through their health department,” he said.
On some of the achievements recorded by the health/technology college so far, Dr. Adamu explained that within the year, the college has recorded tremendous successes, particularly in the area of collaborating with other sister health institutions such as primary health care centers, general hospitals and federal medical center in Keffi, where they send their students for industrial training after the theoritical aspects they have learnt in the class.
Speaking on the challenges facing the newly established college, the provost explained that “the first challenge we faced was the fear initially that we started with just eleven students, how do we scale through but with God’s intervention we just matriculated over 100 of our students last week and so we have overcome that and also as we speak we are continuosly admitting new students expecialy since after our last matriculation.
“One major challenge we are anticipating ofcourse is the issue of the high charges from those regulatory bodies I mentioned earlier. We understand that they charge high when they come for the inspection and so I want to use this medium to appeal to the authorities concerned, talking about the federal government to please consider new institutions like ours and subsidise those charges to enable us deliver and function credibily as expected.”
