Nasarawa State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a woman accused of abandoning her newborn baby in a bush in Akwanga, Akwanga Local Government Area of the state.
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Ramhan Nansel, disclosed the development to reporters on Thursday in Lafia.
“The mother of the baby has been identified and arrested. The Commissioner of Police has ordered the transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Lafia, for a comprehensive investigation and prosecution of the suspect,” Nansel said.

According to Vanguard reports, the baby girl was allegedly abandoned by her mother in the popular A.A. Koto area of Akwanga town. Fortunately, the infant was discovered alive by residents and later handed over to the police.
An eyewitness, who requested anonymity, explained that the newborn was found on Wednesday near a bush along Hope Academy Primary School, Akwanga.
“The baby was wrapped in a cloth and dumped in the bush by her mother, a final-year NCE student of the College of Education, Akwanga,” the source narrated.
The police have assured that investigations are ongoing to ensure justice is served in the case.
