Nasarawa Police Nab Notorious Kidnap Kingpin, Five Others in Major Crackdown

Police in Nasarawa State have arrested Mohammed Bammi, alias “Zomo,” a notorious kidnapper and armed robber terrorizing Doma Local Government Area.

The arrest, confirmed by SP Ramhan Nansel on August 24, 2025, followed a clearance operation in Doka forest where Zomo, who had evaded capture last month, attempted to stab officers but was swiftly subdued.

Zomo led detectives to a hideout in Alagye village, where police recovered a pump-action rifle, a locally made AK-47, live ammunition, cartridges, a knife, a rope, two Tecno phones, and NSCDC uniforms.

In a separate operation, Awe Area Command arrested five members of a 10-man kidnapping syndicate in Gidan Taku village, Wuse Chiefdom.

The suspects—Michael Ato, Richard Ato, Alom Bernard, Hangior Ato, and Jacob Hunde (alias Okocha)—were linked to the kidnapping of Blessing John from Gidan Makaranta village.

Investigations revealed they also abducted John Ada Kuje, the victim’s husband, in April 2024, releasing him after ransom payment. Two locally made AK-47 rifles and one live ammunition were recovered.

The Commissioner of Police praised the officers’ bravery and urged sustained efforts to rid Nasarawa of criminals. All suspects are now with the Anti-Kidnapping Unit for further investigation and prosecution.
