The Nigeria Police Force, Nasarawa State command, on Tuesday said it has arrested nine (9) suspected gun runners, alleged to have been from Benue State, who were trying to offload arms and ammunition for onward distribution to their criminal partners in an operation led by the state commissioner of police, CP Shetima Mohammed Jauro.
The CP said during the operation, they following exhibits were recovered: four (4), AK- rifles, three (3), one (1), G3 rifle, one (1), sub-Machine gun, 4,046 rounds of 38mm ammunition, eleven (11), rounds of 5.5mm ammunition others were 132 rounds of 38mm ammunition and seventy (75), cartridges.
Speaking while briefing journalists at the police Headquarters in Lafia, the state capital, CP Shetima Mohammed said that on 6th September 2025 at about 1700hrs, operatives acted on an actionable intelligence and arrested one John Paul, a male of FCT Abuja, along Akwanga -Wamba Motor Park en route to Abuja.
The CP also explained that on 31st August 2025 at about 0300hrs, an operative attached to ‘E’ Division Shabu arrested two notorious gun manufacturers.
According to CP Shetima Mohammed Jauro, ” Further investigation led to the arrest of four major buyers and distributors of the fabricated arms, namely: Usman Abubakar, male, of Shendam road, Lafia, Yakubu Danladi, male, of Mararaba, and others.
“The suspects were arrested with the following exhibits: Thirteen (13) long-range single-barrel guns, ten (10), short guns, various criminal charms, three (3) police uniforms and face caps, three (3), gun manufacturing machines and tools, and others,” he said.
The commissioner of police further added that on 7th September 2025 at about 0230hrs, an operative of the anti-Cultism Unit was on an aggressive patrol at around the College of Agriculture junction and Science School gate, Lafia, where they intercepted a black Peugeot 508 vehicle with registration number LFA-86-MF.
The Commissioner of Police also informed that the suspects who were in the custody of the police are currently assisting the police with the ongoing investigation.
CP Shetima Mohammed Jauro, however, commended the members of the general public who provide police with useful information and support that led to the arrest of suspects.
He assured the residents of Nasarawa State that the command under his watch would not relent in its determination to rid the state of criminal elements and urged everyone to remain vigilant, be law-abiding, and assist the police with credible information for prompt action.
