Operatives of the Nigeria Police attached to Doma Division have arrested a dreaded armed robbery and kidnap kingpin, Mohammed Bammi, also known as “Zomo,” of Yelwa village.

The suspect has been responsible for multiple kidnappings and robberies across Doma Local Government Area and its environs.

According to a statement by the command’s spokesperson, SP Ramhan Nansel, on Sunday,  Zomo narrowly escaped arrest last month when his gang members were apprehended.

In a desperate bid to evade capture, he pulled a knife to attack the officers but was swiftly overpowered and arrested.”

Upon interrogation, Zomo led detectives to their hideout at Alagye village, Doma, where several dangerous items were recovered, including a pump-action rifle (Breech No. P331551), a locally made AK-47 rifle with magazine, two live ammunition, five cartridges, a knife, a rope, two Tecno handsets, and a pair of NSCDC uniforms.

In a separate sting operation in Gidan Taku village, Wuse Chiefdom, Awe LGA, five suspected members of a notorious 10-man kidnapping syndicate were arrested.

They included Michael Ato, Richard Ato, Alom Bernard, Hangior Ato, and Jacob Hunde, alias Okocha.

Investigations revealed their involvement in the kidnapping of Blessing John of Gidan Makaranta village, Wuse, and her husband John Ada Kuje in April 2024.

Two locally fabricated AK-47 rifles and one live ammunition were recovered from the suspects.

“The Commissioner of Police, Nasarawa State Command commended the gallant officers for their courage and professionalism.

“He charged them to intensify the heat on criminals until the state is completely free of kidnappers and armed robbers,” Nansel added.

All arrested suspects have been transferred to the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the police for further investigation and prosecution.
