5 days ago 21

The Nasarawa state government has trained staff in Ministries, Department and Agencies (MDAs) on public private partnership (PPP) initiative to ensure the development of the state.

Managing Director Nasarawa State Investment Development Agency (NASIDA), Ibrahim Abdullahi, speaking during a two day workshop for MDAs on Tuesday in Lafia, said it would enhance the knowledge of MDAs on PPP.

The MD, who was represented by Mayowa Edgar, head of Infrastructure Finance and PPP unit NASIDA, urged MDAs and stakeholders to give their necessary support and cooperation in ensuring the success of the implementation of the PPP framework in Nasarawa state.

The programme was organised by NASIDA, facilitated by UK Nigeria Infrastructure Advisory Facility (UKNiAF) aimed at empowering MDAs with the knowledge and tools to drive effective PPP for sustainable development.

He explained that the agency Law 2020 provides in sections 3 and 4 for the establishment of a body, NASIDA to initiate, promote, facilitate, and coordinate investments in the state through greenfield, PPPs, privatization, concessions and commercialization of state-owned assets and other related matters as the board may determine from time to time.

He, therefore, encouraged MDAs and stakeholders in the state to support the operation of PPPs for optimal performance and development of the state.

Also speaking, Mr. Ron Sircar project manager Infrastructure Finance UKNiAF said the programme was designed to be flexible and demand-driven.

He added that UkNiAF consults with government ministries and agencies that plan and deliver infrastructure or develop mechanisms or transactions involving private sector financing of infrastructure.
