NAPTIP secured 600 convictions in 22 years

The Zonal Commander, National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), Benin Office, Mr Ganiu Aganran, has disclosed that the agency had secured over 600 convictions of human traffickers since inception in 2003.

It also said the agency had also rescued over 20,000 victims of human trafficking within the same period.

He disclosed this in Benin at a two-day awareness workshop for law enforcement agencies in the state, organised by the Committee for the Support of Dignity of Women (COSUDOW) in collaboration with NAPTIP.

Earlier, National Coordinator of COSDOW, Sir Justina Odunukwe, urged participants to collaborate towards solutions that would make a lasting impact.

On his part, Prof. Eric Okojie, noted that the majority of trafficked victims were women, usually sexually exploited in their desire for greener pastures by their traffickers.
