NAPTIP Raids Human Trafficking Syndicate in Abuja, Arrests Eight, Rescues 29 Victims

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) arrested eight suspected members of a human trafficking syndicate operating between Nigeria and Ghana, rescuing 29 victims, mostly West African nationals, in a raid at a hideout in Gwagwalada, Abuja.

The operation, prompted by intelligence from the Ghanaian Embassy, targeted a syndicate allegedly exploiting a Ghanaian victim recruited under false pretenses, defrauded of USD 3,500, and stripped of his passport and belongings.

This follows NAPTIP’s recent rescue of 25 women bound for Saudi Arabia. The raid yielded the victim’s passport, mobile phones, SIM cards, and financial records.

The 29 rescued victims—20 females (aged 17–28) and 9 males (aged 18–30)—with expired permits, were trafficked for alleged sexual exploitation and cybercrime.

They are now in protective custody, receiving aid, while NAPTIP coordinates with diplomatic missions for foreign nationals.

NAPTIP Director General Binta Adamu Bello condemned the syndicate’s trans-border operations, emphasizing the agency’s commitment to dismantling trafficking networks through intelligence sharing and prosecutions.

“The suspects will face the full wrath of the law,” Bello stated, vowing to continue disrupting trafficking and ensuring justice for victims.
