The newly elected president of the National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS), Comrade Eshiofune Paul Oghayan, has assured polytechnic students across the country of a service-oriented leadership that will advocate for their welfare and academic progress.
Speaking at the end of the NAPS national convention held at the Justice Fatilami Institute of Legal Studies, Minna, he vowed to protect the mandate given to him by the students and ensure that their needs are addressed.
“My team and I traveled across the 36 states and the FCT, canvassing for votes, and yesterday, the majority of senators spoke through the ballot, giving us a mandate to lead them. I promise that we shall deliver on this mandate with honor and dignity,” he said.
He assured polytechnic students nationwide that his administration would engage relevant authorities to find lasting solutions to their challenges while working to improve learning and living conditions on campuses in line with international best practices.
“For students and unions that have been victimized, expelled, or dissolved, I assure you that it is a new dawn. Tell those responsible that we are coming, and it will not be business as usual,” he warned.
Comrade Oghayan also called for unity within the association, urging those who contested against him to join hands in moving NAPS forward rather than creating factions.
“I declare a ‘no victor, no vanquished’ status. I call on all those who contested with us but did not win to join us in giving NAPS a fresh start. I beseech them to resist the temptation of declaring factions, as we will not tolerate such,” he stated.
He expressed gratitude to the management of Justice Fatilami Institute of Legal Studies for hosting the convention, as well as security agencies for ensuring a peaceful electoral process.
