Aliyu Abubakar-Idris, President, News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Staff Multipurpose Cooperative Society, has promised to prioritise new investment opportunities for sustainable development of the society.
He also promised to utilise the society’s lands for staff housing estate in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
Abubakar-Idris said this at the inauguration of the newly elected executives of the society on Tuesday in Abuja.
While congratulating the new executives and members of the society for electing them, Abubakar-Idris said they would work towards the development of the cooperative lands across the FCT and environs, to ensure affordable housing for members.
He said the new leadership would prioritise improving investment of its fund in viable businesses.
The outgoing President of the society, Mr Stephen Igiewe, advised the new executives to be firm in their actions and put the interests of members first in decision-making.
The new executives emerged in a keenly contested election at the end of the cooperative’s 13th Annual General Meeting (AGM).
Abubakar-Idris emerged as the new President of the society unopposed alongside the Treasurer, Wunmi Agboola and the Welfare Officer, Abdulrasheed Adebayo.
Mr Segun Lawal, won the post of the Vice-President, with 92 votes, defeating his opponent, Mr Joseph Edeh, who polled 90 votes.
Also, John Ojamiren, clinched the post of the Secretary with 116 votes after defeating Dr Uche Anunne, who garnered 64 votes.
Mr Idris Momoh won the post of the Financial Secretary, defeating his opponent, Mrs Ngozi Amah.
Similarly; Dennis Pollyn, won the post of the Public Relations Officer (PRO) with 57 votes, defeating his opponents Chidi Opara and Ese Eniola-Williams with 55 and 20 votes, respectively.
While Dorcas Jonah won the post of the Assistant Secretary with 155 votes defeating her contender, Joy Nwachukwu, with 29 votes.
