…Says no vacancy in Aso Villa for 2027

ABUJA – Former Senate Chief and Chairman of the Senate Committee On South East Development Commission, SEDC, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, has called on former President Ibrahim Babangida to name those involved in the controversial cancellation of the June 12 1993 Presidential election won by late Moshood Kashimawo Abiola.

This is coming on the heels of his declaration that the All Progressive Congress, APC, has no vacancy for anyone other than President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the Villa for 2027.

Addressing members of the Senate Press Corps in Abuja, Kalu said IBB should go further to make a role call of those individuals who are really involved in the annulment of Justice ne 12 election in the second edition of his book “Journey In Service”.

Kalu said IBB should name the accomplices of his Second- in Command, late General Sani Abacha and the Chairman of National Election Commission, Humphrey Nwosu so that Nigerians will know the role they all played and it would not look as if he’s lying.

For the first time in 32 years, IBB admits in his now highly debated book that MKO Abiola, candidate of the Social Democratic Party, (SDP) won the election.

Kalu said he has no doubt Abiola won the election, calling on President Bola Tinubu to swear him in posthumously and his picture allowed to hang in the hall of fame of former Presidents of the country.

“Yes, Abiola won the election and there’s no doubt about that I would like them to put Abiola’s picture where other presidents’ pictures are put in. If he won the election he was not sworn in. I will as I will appeal to President Ahmed Tinubu, to swear him in post-mortem and also allowed his picture to be where you have former president.

“We have already given him all the honor. I’m very thankful to President Muhammadu Buhari, who gave him a national award and post-mortem. So he can also have his picture post-mortem. So the family will be healed and give them rights they give to former president,” he said.

The former Governor of Abia State said hebwas glad that Babangida’s book has finally cleared the misconception that the 1966 coup is an Igbo coup but rather a Nigerian coup , coordinated and executed by the military but erroneously blamed on Igbos in the country.

On the race for 2027, Kalu said his party APC is not shopping for any other candidate, apart from the sitting President, Bola Tinubu who he said he has no doubt will win a second term.

“We have a sitting president and we are not looking for any other person. The problem of Nigeria is that you people don’t like to consolidate gains of reform. It might be very difficult today and I know people are complaining, but the reform is cycling down.

“Somebody just told me this morning that the dollar is $1.49, so the reform is working. We must be patient. I’m a manufacturer. Manufacturing costs have gone up. Last year, it was 23%. Early this year, it has gone to 18.5%. You can call the LLC of Lagos State and ask the manufacturing association,” he said.

He said the government has cut the economy into pieces and it’s now trying to sew it and get it right back for the people to enjoy.

“It’s difficult everywhere in the world. It’s difficult in London. It’s difficult in Canada. It’s difficult everywhere. The most important thing is that initially, they were done in a hurry. Now, the president is taking time with the economic team to set everything. And you can see now the president is making a wider consultation.

“People were accusing him that he’s not making a wider consultation. The president is making a wider consultation. At least many other people, the business people, the politicians and everybody, they are going in to advise him. To look at this, it’s no longer like when he just came,” he said.
