The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has pledged to engage its Saudi service provider, Mashariq al Dhahabia, in further discussions regarding an alleged breach of contract levelled against it.
A statement signed by Muhammad Ahmad Musa, Head of Public Relations of NAHCON, explained that the engagement was in response to reported threats of litigation by Mashariq al Dhahabia.
The statement explained that the decision to supplement Mashariq’s services with an additional provider was made after identifying operational challenges specifically related to Mashariq’s listing on the Saudi Visa Portal, Nusuk.
“Despite subsequent corrective actions by Mashariq al Dhahabia, NAHCON’s proactive decision to engage a supplementary provider was driven by the need to meet the stringent Saudi deadlines and to ensure uninterrupted service to Nigerian pilgrims,” the statement said.
The statement noted that the threats of legal action by Mashariq al Dhahabia, as reported by some media houses, appeared intended to pressure NAHCON into granting an exclusive monopoly of the states’ quota to the organisation.
“NAHCON firmly rejects any attempt to create confusion or to compromise the welfare of Nigerian pilgrims. Instead, the Commission’s strategy is to foster a competitive environment aimed at reducing costs and enhancing service quality.
“NAHCON remains steadfast in its commitment to contractual integrity and the well-being of Nigerian pilgrims. The Commission will continue to strive to operate with transparency and accountability, undeterred by allegations or attempts to undermine its mission,” the statement added.
