The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has confirmed the launch of a formal internal investigation into extortion allegation made by a Nigerian rapper Oladipupo Olabode Oladimeji (a.k.a. Oladips).
The rapper claims he was detained for five days and forced to pay ₦10,000,000 (Ten Million Naira) to EFCC operatives to secure his release.
According to a statement on its X platform, the Commission said it is still investigating the matter
“As of today, November 1, 2025, the EFCC investigation is ongoing, with no final outcome yet released.
“The Commission has taken immediate administrative steps to address the serious nature of the allegation.
“The EFCC has relieved the officers involved of their operational duties and summoned them to the Corporate Headquarters pending the conclusion of the inquiry,” it said.
The Commission said it views the claims with “great seriousness” and stresses that the incident does not reflect the agency’s true character.
The EFCC reiterated its commitment to integrity, vowing to sanction any staff found culpable.
It warned that sanctions would be imposed on the rapper if the allegation is proven to be false and intended to maliciously tarnish the agency’s image.
The EFCC urges the public to await the result of its thorough investigation.
