Veteran Nollywood actress Toyin Afolayan, famously known as Lola Idije, has clarified misconceptions surrounding her personality.
She stressed that her characters on screen do not represent who she is in real life.
In an interview with actress Ayo Adesanya, shared on Instagram on Saturday, Lola Idije—frequently cast as a strict mother-in-law in Yoruba films—explained that her intense performances are a result of her acting skills and do not reflect her real-life personality.

“I am not wicked in reality. My faith in God guides me, and I live a modest lifestyle. I don’t indulge in drinking, smoking, or other habits people often associate with movie characters,” she said.
She also disclosed that her disciplined approach to acting was shaped by her late “brother,” Adeyemi Afolayan, popularly known as Ade Love, a pioneer of Nollywood.
Toyin Afolayan shot to fame in 1995 with her role as Madam Adisa in Deadly Affair, which earned her widespread recognition.
Apart from her acting career, she has influenced Nigerian pop culture by popularising catchphrases such as “Soro Soke Werey” and “Pele My Dear,” which have since trended widely on social media.
