Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State has expressed concern that his successor may not share his level of religiosity and commitment to God.
He made the remarks on Wednesday, while receiving a delegation of leaders from the Owerri Zone at the Government House in Owerri.
Uzodimma emphasised that the selection process for his successor must be both transparent and democratic, stressing the importance of fairness in the upcoming gubernatorial succession.

He highlighted his role in initiating the Imo Charter of Equity, aimed at promoting inclusivity and balancing power rotation among the state’s three zones.
He said, “The Charter of Equity is not a slogan for confusion.
“It is a document to remind us of the imbalance in the system and see how best to correct it. But it must work hand in hand with democratic processes.
“ You must join me now for us to cure this confusion.
“If we don’t, the man coming after me may not be as religious and God-fearing as I am.”
The governor also called on stakeholders to work together to ensure a smooth transition, adding, “Our people deserve a leadership that is not only fair but also morally grounded. We cannot afford to let politics overshadow principles.
“Let us be guided by justice, equity, and God’s wisdom in choosing the next leader.”
Uzodimma further urged political actors to respect zoning arrangements, stating, “The rotation of power among the three zones is vital.
“This is not about favoritism; it is about fairness and ensuring every part of Imo State feels represented.
“Democracy must guide our choices, not personal ambitions.”
He concluded by appealing for unity, saying, “Let us come together to heal divisions and build a stronger, more inclusive Imo.
“The future of our state depends on leaders who respect both the law and God’s teachings.”
