My Defection To APC Reflects Support For Effective Governance

Akwa-Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has explained his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

The governor, during an interview on Arise Television, on Friday, said he could no longer support President Bola Tinubu “in the dark” while remaining in the PDP.

“I’m convinced that President Tinubu is doing very well. While I appreciate the PDP for providing the platform for me to become governor, the constitution provides the liberty to switch parties if one decides,” he stated.

“I couldn’t say I’m in one party during the day and then go to Aso Rock at night to pledge my loyalty. It’s best to let people know where I stand.

“When comparing President Tinubu with others, I naturally prefer him,” Governor Eno added.

The governor also stressed that his decision was based on principle rather than personal gain.

“My choice is about supporting leadership that delivers results for the people.

“I want to be in a position where I can actively contribute to progress, not just occupy a party platform,” he said.

Speaking on the future, Eno added, “I remain committed to the development of Akwa-Ibom State, and aligning with APC allows me to better support initiatives that will improve the lives of our citizens.

“This is not about politics alone, but about good governance.”

Governor Eno’s remarks aim to clarify his position and demonstrate that his move was deliberate, transparent, and focused on benefiting his state and the nation.

“I respect my former party and its members, but I must follow the path that aligns with my principles and the expectations of my people,” he concluded.
