 Muslim Women Dissect Challenges Facing Womenhood At Lagos Confab  – Independent Newspaper Nigeria


 The hall and premises of Emsquare in Ikotun/Ijegun axis was filled to capacity on Sunday, 17th August 2025, when All Women Organisations Forum – a coalition of muslim women groups from different denominations came together to rub minds on issues that affect womanhood within Ikotun and its environs. 

The 3rd edition of the annual programme with the theme, “Peaceful Coexistence: Recipe for A Tranquil Home” focused on promoting all-round wellness within homes – the primary unit of society. 

The event saw the launch of the Tranquil Home Women Empowerment Foundation, a not-for-profit organisation aimed at empowering women in every way possible. 

Guest Speaker and Proprietress of Startwell School, Ikorodu, Lagos, Alhaja Muteeah Jumuah-Olagunju, while speaking on the theme, stressed the essence of peaceful coexistence. 

She said: “The state of many homes today is disturbing, and a lot rests on the shoulders of women. We need to do more for ourselves and our homes. As women, we must be intentional about making peace with ourselves in order to find tranquillity in our homes.” 

Also, speaking at the event, a family health consultant at Isolo General Hospital, Dr Safiyyah Miftah, emphasised the relevance of healthy habits to overall well-being. 

She said: “As women, we have to stay healthy at all times. We are the backbone of the family. As such, our health is of utmost importance. Hence, we must cultivatehealthyhabitsandmaintainmental and emotional balance. 

“The value of good food cannot be overemphasised. Let’s eat healthy meals, ensuring our diets are balanced. We should also ensure adequate intake of water. Regular exercise also keeps the body in shape. Finally, make sure you get adequate rest. Keep yourself while keeping the home.” 

Chairperson, Board of Trustees for the foundation, Prof. Khadijah Idowu, disclosed that the rationale behind the formation of the foundation is the pressing need to give more to women. 

She said: “We’ve been having since the inception of the forum. In fact, this is the third edition, but we realised that there was a need to do more. So, we decided to come up with this. We have to empower women economically, emotionally, spiritually, and in every way. Rounded empowerment of the women folk and girlchild is the concern of the foundation.” 

According to her, the aims of the organisation include empowerment, education, and support of the fragile vessels; females. 

We’re ready to key into the programme – Alhaja Raji 

Speaking for Alasalatu Opeloyeru in Ikotun, Alhaja Rafatu Raji disclosed that her group finds the forum appealing. 

“We’re so in love with the form from the outset. We love every bit of it from inception. We are excited about the foundation launch and glad we were a part of it.” 

On its programmes, she said, “We’re ready to key into the programmes of the foundation, and we won’t hesitate to contribute our quota when the time comes.” 

Chief launcher, Hajia Sherifah Folashade Olajobi, Head of Rightly Guided Schools in Ikotun expresse fascination at the activities of the foundation. 

She admonished females to be providers rather than dependants. She decried the plight of many who are helpless out of dependence.
