“Music Industry Is Dark, But My Faith Keeps Me Standing” – Tiwa Savage

Afrobeats sensation Tiwa Savage has opened up about the realities of the music industry, describing it as one “filled with darkness,” while reflecting on the obstacles she continues to face in her career.

During a livestream with her fans on Friday, the singer expressed disappointment at those who doubted her latest project simply because it did not include high-profile collaborations or mainstream party records.

She emphasised that her focus has always been on staying true to her artistry, crediting her resilience to faith and the unwavering support of her team.

Savage said, “My Alpha and Omega, this industry is filled with so much darkness. I wish you guys knew so much but I thank God that I’ve just kept my eyes on Him. I haven’t fallen. When I put out the track list, I saw so many people saying, ‘Ah, she doesn’t have this person, she’s not featuring that person, she doesn’t have big names from America.’”

She continued, “They’ve just automatically concluded that because I don’t have that on the album, it’s not gonna be good. Like wow, I wish people understood music the way I understand music. Yeah, I don’t have huge cosigns, I don’t—and I wasn’t actively seeking huge cosigns. All I have is all I have, isn’t it? All I have is all I have. All I have is all I have, and that’s me, the people who are willing to work with me, and the music.”

Addressing her fans directly, she added, “Honestly having you guys is enough for me. I do believe that sometimes they say you don’t need a lot of people, you just need the right people. I don’t need millions of fans, I just need the right ones. And I have the right ones.”

Reflecting on the album’s journey, Savage revealed it took more than two years to complete, noting the resistance and doubt she faced along the way. “So many people said me doing this type of vulnerable record, nobody’s going to listen to it. Nobody cares, people just want to hear gbedu, they just want to hear bangers, they just want to hear club records. ‘You don’t have any club records, this thing is not going to work, people are not going to stream it.’ People don’t care.”

She went on, “Thank you, thank you and it’s midnight, it’s out. Jesus, it’s out. Thank you God. Thank you. My alpha and omega, this industry is filled with so much darkness, I wish you guys knew so much but I thank God that I’ve just kept my eyes on Him. I haven’t fallen.”

Tiwa Savage’s remarks come shortly after the release of her new album, “This One Is Personal.”
