Nigerian singer Seyi Shay has highlighted the critical role of a father figure in shaping the upbringing of the girlchild.
The singer noted that women who grow up with a father figure tend to be more grounded and possess stronger values compared to those who do not.
She argued that claims suggesting “men are not important” are misleading and serve to create more broken homes.

“Also, there is a bar when they want to get married or when they choose male friends. All these narrative of men are not important is bullsh*t because that’s just an agenda for more divisions in our homes so that we can churn out more broken souls and more lost females and males.”
The 39-year-old singer expressed gratitude that she did not have a daughter in her twenties, explaining that her current experience and maturity equip her better to raise a child.
She added that with her life experience, she would be able to guide her daughter to avoid repeating mistakes she made in relationships, friendships, and other areas of life.
