2 hours ago 23

Super Eagles winger, Moses Simon scored his sixth league goal as Nantes ended their two-game winless streak, defeating Lens 3-1 on Sunday to move five points clear of the relegation zone.

The French side was under pressure to win, having being trashed 7-1 by Monaco in the last game while securing only one victory in their previous eight matches across all competitions. Similarly, Lens aimed to bounce back from consecutive losses to PSG and Nice.

Motivated by their home crowd, Nantes started strongly and took the lead in the 36th minute through Louis Leroux’s left-footed strike, maintaining their advantage until halftime.

The second half saw an improvement from Lens, who pushed for an equalizer. However, against the run of play, Nantes were awarded a penalty after a VAR check, and Moses Simon converted it expertly to double his team’s lead.

Few minutes later, Lens were given a lifeline when they were awarded a penalty of their own after another VAR check, which Neil El Aynaoui successfully converted. However, their momentum was short-lived, as M’bala Nzola received a red card, giving Nantes a numerical advantage.

With the extra player, Nantes regained control and limited Lens’ attacking threats, ultimately defending their 2-1 lead before Meschack Elia scored in the final minutes of the game to secure all three important points.

The vital win propelled Nantes to 14th place with 24 points from 23 matches, nine points behind eighth-placed Lens. Next up, Moses Simon’s side travel to face Marseille, seeking to maintain their momentum with another victory.
