Monarch, 4 Others Remanded Over Murder Of Policemen, Others

Five male suspects including the traditional ruler of Igga community in Uzo-Uwani local government area of Enugu State, Herbert Ukuta have been remanded in the Nigerian Correctional Custodial Centre for allegedly masterminding an unprovoked attack and gruesome murder of two policemen and three neighbourhood watch group members.

Others remanded in prison over the murder of the security operatives are Festus Okonkwo, Ofodile Titus Henry, Sunday Ugwu and Obinna Ayogu.
They were arrested in connection with the murder of the deceased persons on Friday, May 3, 2024, at Igga.

They were arraigned in court on June 6 for conspiracy, terrorism and murder and being found culpable during investigations, were remanded in the Nigerian Correctional Custodial Centre.

It would be recalled that on the said date, a combined security policemen and neighbourhood watch group, providing security for a team of investors on a visiting tour to a proposed agricultural investment site in the area, was ambushed and attacked by a large group of armed criminal elements harboured in the community.

The remains of the two policemen and three members of the neighborhood watch group murdered by the assailants were later recovered following the revelations of the traditional ruler and others earlier arrested and detained on court orders.

The Commissioner of Police, Kanayo Uzuegbu, has reiterated the resolve of the command to bring everyone involved in the heinous act to justice.
