The Minister of Regional Development, Engr. Abubakar Momoh, will on Monday, 24th November, 2025 deliver the University of Benin (UNIBEN) 55th Founders’ Day Lecture as part of activities marking the 51st convocation ceremonies of the University.
Momoh, an alumnus of the UNIBEN and a fellow of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, will speak on “Reforms for a Shared Prosperity” during the 51st convocation ceremonies.
According to the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Edoba Omoregie, SAN, the convocation will also feature a lecture by Prof. Eghosa Osaghae, Director General of the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA) and former Vice Chancellor of Igbinedion University, Okada (IUO). Osaghae will address the topic of “Making Our Universities Great.”
Prof. Omoregie stated that his administration is building upon the achievements of its predecessors saying , “My administration, in less than one year of its coming on stream, is building on the solid foundations laid by our predecessors.
“We have designed a blueprint encapsulated in our five-point agenda that has already been well circulated and known to many of you. The agenda is carefully articulated to align with the strategic goals of the university.
“This year’s convocation is unique for the simple fact that the 2024/2025 academic calendar has run smoothly and without hitch. The graduates are joyous that their sojourn in the University of Benin has come to a pleasant and desirable conclusion. Kudos to all stakeholders who made this possible.”
He said that the ceremonies will formally begin on Sunday, 23rd November, with an Inter-faith Service at 10 O clock in the morning. This will be held at the Akin Deko Auditorium.
“On Monday, 24th November, there will be a Founders’ Day Lecture. We are proud to announce that our Founders’ Day Lecturer this year, is an illustrious alumnus and a member of the Federal Executive Council of our great country in the person of the Honorable Minister, Ministry of Regional Development, Engr. Abubakar Momoh, Fellow, Nigerian Society of Engineers. The topic of the lecture is: “Reforms for a Shared Prosperity”.
He added that the ceremony for the Award of First Degrees and presentation of Prizes will be held on Friday, 28th November.
” The Convocation Lecture is billed for the same day. The Guest Lecturer is a distinguished scholar and Director General of the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs as well as a Former Vice Chancellor of Igbinedion University, Okada, Edo State, Professor Eghosa Osaghae The title of the expectedly thought-provoking convocation lecture is: “Making Our Universities Great”.
“The 2025 Convocation activities will climax with the award of higher degrees of Ph.D., Masters and Postgraduate Diplomas on Saturday 29th November. We warmly invite you all to the events.”
The Vice-Chancellor stated that a total number of 14,083 (Fourteen thousand and eighty-three) graduands shall be conferred with first degree, giving the breakdown breakdown of result of first degrees as198 first class, 4,217 second class upper, 578 third class with 212 diploma.
The VC gave the breakdown of those to be conferred with Higher Degrees as Ph D. 334, MPHIL 25, MASTERS 1,008, PGD 423, making a total of 1,780.
