The Mokwa Local Government Area has revealed that 458 households affected by the May 2025 flooding have so far been compensated with cash and food supplies.
The disaster, which claimed at least 260 lives, also displaced thousands of residents.
Secretary of Mokwa Local Government and Secretary of the Relief Distribution Committee, Alhaji Dauda Liman, disclosed this to journalists on Sunday.

He stated that each household received N1 million along with raw food items donated by the federal and state governments and other organizations.
“Those who have not received their compensations are about 20-25 percent of the survivors, and some of them are those who relocated to other towns to seek refuge shortly after the flood.
“The first and second batches have been compensated and no doubt, the others will also be compensated,” Liman assured.
On the N2 billion pledged by the federal government for the flood victims, Liman explained, “The Federal government is yet to redeem the pledge of N2b but we know that it will be redeemed.”
He further provided a breakdown of the compensations, saying, “Owners of 424 houses and shops destroyed during the flood received N500,000 each, while relations of 138 people who died also got N1 million each.”
