Joseph Aloba, father of the late Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has called on the Lagos State Government to prosecute his son’s widow, Omowunmi Aloba, and other individuals indicted in the Coroner’s Inquest into the artist’s death.
The demand was contained in a letter addressed to the Lagos State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Lawal Pedro (SAN), and signed by Wahab Shittu (SAN), counsel to the Aloba family.
In the petition, Aloba specifically requested the prosecution of Feyisayo Ogedengbe, the auxiliary nurse who administered an injection to Mohbad shortly before his death in September 2023.
He also urged that other persons present at the scene, particularly those who invited the nurse or failed to provide prompt medical assistance be brought to justice.
The letter referenced the Coroner’s verdict delivered in July 2025 by Magistrate Taofikat Shotobi, which found the nurse’s actions both “unlawful and professionally negligent” for administering medication without a doctor’s prescription. The Coroner also faulted Mohbad’s widow for opting for home treatment instead of taking him to a hospital.
Despite these findings, Aloba’s legal team expressed concern that no criminal prosecution has been initiated more than two months after the report’s release.
“Our client, as a bereaved father who seeks justice, is deeply troubled by the fact that, despite the clear indictments contained in the Coroner’s verdict, no prosecutorial steps have been taken since July 11, 2025,” the letter stated.
The lawyer urged the Attorney-General to commence prosecution within 14 days, citing the sensitivity and public interest surrounding Mohbad’s death.
