The father of the late singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, Joseph Aloba, has declared that Omowunmi Aloba was never legally married to his son, insisting that a DNA test must be carried out on the singer’s son, Liam Aloba.
This is coming days after the singer’s widow filed a legal notice at the Lagos State High Court in Ikeja to forestall any unauthorised attempt to assume control of the late singer’s estate.
Since the ‘KPK’ crooner died on 12 September 2023 under controversial circumstances, a trend that triggered nationwide outrage and a police-ordered exhumation, tensions have persisted between his widow and his family over control of his property and the paternity of his only son, Liam Aloba.
Introduction
Speaking in a viral video on Friday, Mr Aloba recounted that during his son’s lifetime, Omowunmi became pregnant with the late singer’s child. He said he found it troubling that such a serious matter occurred without his initial knowledge, and without informing him of the girl’s family.
“May God not let us see trouble. If one wants to marry a child, one will marry her both alive and dead. And I told my son that this is the time to know the father of this child, and my son didn’t argue with me,” he said.
Mohbad’s father argued that what later happened between his son and his supposed wife was an introduction, rather than a traditional wedding, which he stated was the first time he met Omowunmi’s family.
“I was surprised because they didn’t measure me for the Agbada. I was surprised when they later said they had a traditional marriage. In our family, the head of the family must know. We know the list they write and negotiate. None of that happened,” Mr Aloba said, insisting that only he and a friend he had invited were present from the Aloba side.
Mr Aloba said Mohbad later assured him that once the child was born, he would proceed with the proper wedding. However, after the baby’s arrival, Mohbad’s father stated that his son changed his mind, saying he would not proceed with the marriage, claiming Omowunmi allegedly cheated.
“But after she gave birth, I called my son, and he told me he was no longer going ahead with the marriage. When I asked why, he said he had caught his wife in bed with another man. I was shocked, ‘How can you see your wife like that and continue living together?
“It didn’t sound right to me. He said he would explain everything and told me he had already informed his friend, Micee, who worked with him at Naira Marley’s place. He also said his elder brother, Ibikun Aloba, and his mother were aware.
“That was the reason he said he could no longer engage with her. That matter pained me deeply. ‘You caught your wife, and you still live together?’ He told me that was why he could no longer proceed with any engagement with her,” Mr Aloba explained.
DNA
According to him, the seriousness of that allegation became the foundation for his insistence on a DNA test. He added that those Mohbad named as witnesses, Micee, Ibukun, and Mohbad’s mother are all still alive and aware of what happened.
“That is why I’m telling the whole world to come to my aid. We need a DNA test because I cannot hold on to a child who may not belong to our family. For those who don’t know, they should know now. This is why I have been shouting to the whole world,” he stated.

He, however, challenged the Adebanjo family to prove any claim of a traditional marriage by showing who in the Aloba family received a marriage list or oversaw the rites.
“As for the Adebanjos, if you claim a traditional marriage took place, was the Aloba family given the list of items? Who received it? How can a wedding be done without the knowledge of the family head?
“How can a wedding be done without the involvement of anyone in our family? Apart from the friend I took along for the introduction, no one else from our side was involved,” Mr Aloba stated.
