The Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, Geoffrey Nnaji, has resigned from his position following issues relating to his alleged forged first degree and NYSC certificates. The development marks a pivotal point in a long investigation by Premium Times.
Confirming the development, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, stated on Tuesday that President Tinubu has accepted the resignation of the innovation minister.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has accepted the resignation of Geoffrey Nnaji, the Minister of Innovation, Science, and Technology, following some allegations against him. He resigned today in a letter thanking the President for allowing him to serve Nigeria,” the statement reads.
Following an investigation by PREMIUM TIMES, the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), disowned the Bachelor of Science degree certificate in the possession of the former Minister. The report added that Geoffrey Nnaji forged his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), stressing that it could not be authentic.
While Nnaji supposedly confirmed that both certificates were a product of forgery, the resignation was painted as a scenario of blackmail.
“Nnaji said he has been a target of blackmail by political opponents. President Tinubu thanked him for his service and wished him well in future endeavours,” Onanuga’s statement read.
This is a developing story, and we will update the story as we get more details.
