The newly appointed Commissioner of Police, Dantawaye Miller, has officially assumed duty as the 34th Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command.
Miller takes over from CP Ajao Adewale, who has been redeployed to another strategic assignment by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun.
Born on October 15, 1971, in Afogo, Kajuru Local Government Area of Kaduna State, CP Miller hails from a distinguished policing background as the son of the late DCP Gajere Dantawaye.
He began his education at St. Williams Primary School, Ilorin, before transferring to Nuhu Primary School, Kankiya, Katsina State. He later attended Government College, Katsina, and Federal Government College, Enugu, where he obtained his Senior School Certificate in 1989.
Miller holds a Diploma in Business Administration from Kaduna Polytechnic, a Bachelor’s degree in International Studies from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and a Master’s degree in International Studies from the University of Ilorin.
Enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police in May 2000, Miller completed his training the following year and began his career with the Bayelsa State Police Command in January 2002.
Over his more than two decades of service, he has held several key command and operational roles, including Divisional Crime Officer, ‘A’ Division, Yenagoa; Acting Aide-de-Camp to the Governor of Bayelsa State; Escort Commander to the Vice President; Chief Security Officer, Ministry of Petroleum; and Commanding Officer, MOPOL 24, Presidential Villa.
He also served as Escort Commander to the then President of Nigeria; Assistant Commissioner of Police (Operations), FCT Command; Area Commander, Karewa, Adamawa State; Assistant Commissioner (CID), Oyo State; Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations), Yobe and Edo Commands; and Commissioner of Police, Information Technology, Force Headquarters, Abuja.
Before his current posting, Miller served as the Commissioner of Police, Kogi State Command.
A highly trained and versatile officer, CP Miller has attended several local and international courses, including Combat Operations and Counter-Terrorism in Gwoza, Leadership Training at Shere Hills, Jos, VVIP Protection in Ginegal, Israel, and the Strategic Leadership and Command Course at the Police Staff College, Jos.
He is an Associate Member of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) and an active member of Rotary International, widely respected among Rotarians across the country.
Renowned for his professionalism, innovation, and passion for community safety, CP Dantawaye Miller has pledged to build on existing security frameworks, strengthen community-police collaboration, and ensure the protection of all residents within the FCT.
