Middle Belt Youths Hail Gen Musa’s Appointment As Defence Minister

LAGOS – The All Middle Belt Youth Forum (AMBYF) has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the recent appointment of former Chief of Defence State (CDS), General Christopher Gwabin Musa, as the Defence Minister.

Comrade Aluh Moses Odeh, the AMBYF National Leader, in a statement made available to Sunday Independent, described Gen. Musaa’s appointment as strategic, even as the group lauded the president for the recent appointment of Maj. Gen. Waidi Shaibu as Chief of Army Staff, as well as other notable Middle Belters who bagged key positions.

It said: “We, the youth of Middle Belt under the aegis of All Middle Belt Youth Leader (AMBYF), view these appointments as a significant gesture, especially considering the region’s lukewarm response to the President’s candidacy during the 2023 election.

“Historically, no region has openly declared support for a candidate and pursued it as vigorously as the Middle Belt did in 2023,yet, despite not voting for him en bloc, President Tinubu has demonstrated statesmanship by including our people in his administration.

“We believe the appointment of Middle Belters to head the defence ministry is a calculated move to tackle terrorism and insecurity in the region and Nigeria effectively.

“It shows President Tinubu’s commitment to the Middle Belt liberation struggle, and we are confident this will yield positive results.

“We commend President Tinubu for looking beyond electoral politics and focusing on nation-building. These appointments are a step in the right direction, and we will appreciate his efforts at the appropriate time.

“We are optimistic about the future of our region and the country’s progress under his leadership.”
