Massive Turnouts In Kano Supplementary Poll – Independent Newspaper Nigeria


KANO – The ongoing bye-election in 4 local government council of the state recorded an impressive turnout of eligible voters who trooped enmass to exercise their civic responsibility.

The exercise to elect two persons into the Kano State Assembly has been generally peaceful across Bagwai/Shanono, and Gari/Tsanyawa councils.

The supplementary election was necessitated by the passing of late Hon. Ali Ibrahim Kwadila, the member representing the constituency, while the re-run election in Gari and Tsanyawa aims to complete the electoral process that was previously disrupted due to security concerns.

However, there are heavy presence of security agents across the length and breadth of voting areas which perhaps led to arrest of 288 suspected thugs during the exercise

Police authorities in Kano had revealed that the suspected thugs came with a clear intention to disrupt the exercise.

Report has it that many polling both are winding up as at press time, while electoral officers were seen heading to collation centre.
