Maritime hub: FG set to develop Inland Dry Port in Oyo  


The Federal Government’s resolve to make Nigeria a maritime hub received further boost, following the official handover of Certificate of Occupancy (C of O) for 90 hectares of land by the Oyo State Government for Moniya Inland Dry Port development. 

The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, Olufemi Oloruntola, while receiving the documents from the Oyo State, Deputy Governor, Abdul-Raheem Lawal, behalf of the Federal Government, described the gesture as a clear demonstration of partnership and shared vision between the Federal and the State Government to expand economic opportunities through modern trade.

Olufemi, who represented the Honourable Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Dr. Adegboyega Oyetola, CON, extolled the State Government’s patriotic support towards attaining ideals of the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Speaking further, he assured that the Moniya Inland Dry Port would be a strategic national project that would bring shipping services closer to importers and exporters, thereby stimulating industrial and agricultural growth across the entire South-West region.

Addressing the gathering, the Executive Secretary, Nigerian Shippers’ Council, NSC, Dr. Pius Akutah who was represented by the Director, Inland Transport Services, Ahmadu Garta, appreciated the Oyo State Government’s decision to partner with the Federal Government in the development of the Inland Dry Port. He emphasized the critical role of the project in national commerce, noting that Dry Ports remain an integral part of modern trade facilitation.

In his remarks, the Oyo State Deputy Governor, Lawal, appreciated the Federal Ministry of Marine & Blue Economy and the NSC for their resolve to develop vital transport infrastructure across the country. He reiterated the state’s unwavering commitment to the project, but urged the Ministry and the NSC to stay dedicated to the timeline.

“We are committed to seeing this project through, but we also implore the Ministry and the Council to ensure this project is delivered in time for the maximum benefit of the people of Oyo State and its environs,” the Deputy Governor concluded.
