Man Utd ‘Agree Deal’ For Sporting Lisbon Wonderkid Geovany Quenda

4 days ago 14

Manchester United have reportedly agreed a deal with Sporting Lisbon wonderkid Geovany Quenda.

The 17-year-old versatile right-side sensation was given his senior debut by Ruben Amorim at the beginning of the season and the Portugal youth international has gone on to feature regularly for the Lisbon side.

After impressing for Sporting’s B team, Amorim gave Quenda his league debut from the off against Rio Ave, as he completed the full 90 minutes.

Quenda has made 38 appearances in all competitions so far this season, playing predominately on the right side of midfield or in the wing-back role. Quenda is highly-rated as one of Europe’s top starlets and has caught the eye of United, who will know all about him thanks to Amorim.

After signing Patrick Dorgu from Lecce in January, Amorim made the first step in recruiting players who are more specialised in his 3-4-3 system. No player more than Quenda will be at home in the Portuguese’s system and United are reportedly already holding talks with the teen sensation.

Journalist Ben Jacobs told talkSPORT: “The player has agreed verbally personal terms. He’s waiting to see if the club’s pre-agree (a fee) or wait until the summer and the price United are looking at is 40million euros (£33m).

“Sporting want a minimum of 60m euros (£50m). There’s a release clause at 100m euros (£83m).

“So if United can get this one done south of 60m euros (£50m), it’s not only a good signing for now and the future, and a player Amorim knows really well, it’s also another deal they can potentially get without being forced to, for example Rasmus Hojlund, pay more than they ideally want to.”

Following Amorim’s exit from Sporting in November, Quenda has continued to thrive in the Portuguese capital – completing the full 90 minutes in Sporting’s last five league games and their Champions League knockout playoff first leg defeat to Borussia Dortmund.
