A man, around his early 30s, got himself into trouble in Adewole community in Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State on Monday when he allegedly scooped sand off the footprints of two school children.

The incident happened around the Mandate Estate area during the school rush hours and caused serious pandemonium.

The man, who gave his name simply as Bello, was seriously beaten and almost lynched by some residents but for the timely intervention of some passersby.

He was later escorted out of the community.

According to a witness, Mr Ola, “My eyes caught him when he took the sand because I was behind their mother and I was watching to see what he was up to. But he skilfully poured the sand inside his pocket which made me accost him and raised the alarm.”

The mother of the two children, who was oblivious of the incident before the intervention of the witnesses, expressed surprise while speaking to our correspondent.

She called for vigilance from parents and wards for their children.

During an interview with Daily Trust at the scene, the suspect, who could not explain himself, only said he was going to Oko Olowo.

Police in the area said the incident was not reported at the station.
