Man Arrested In Bauchi Over Alleged Assault On Minors


The Bauchi State Police Command has taken into custody a 70-year-old man, Lawan Sani, from Bakin Kura in Bauchi metropolis, for allegedly attempting to sexually assault a 16-year-old girl.

This was confirmed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Ahmed Wakil, in a statement on Tuesday.

Wakil stated that the suspect was arrested after a distress call was received on September 1, 2025.

Wakil explained that officers from the C Divisional Police Headquarters, under the leadership of Divisional Police Officer SP Naziru Pindiga, promptly responded to the scene and apprehended the suspect at Unguwar Sarakuna, where he was employed as a watchman.

“During interrogation, the suspect confessed to previously luring the minor with N500 into the same residence. Investigation further revealed that he had sexually molested two other teenagers using the same tactics,” Wakil stated.

He added that the three victims confirmed the claims during interviews, stating that the suspect had attacked them on more than 15 occasions and often intimidated them to prevent them from speaking out.

The police spokesperson stated that medical examinations were conducted on both the victims and the suspect to evaluate their health conditions.

In a separate incident, Wakil revealed that on September 6, 2025, police arrested 30-year-old Ibrahim Uzairu from Fantami in Gombe State for allegedly stealing a Toyota Sienna with the registration number DKN-254-DW.

He explained that detectives from the B Divisional Police Headquarters, GRA, acted on a tip-off and apprehended Uzairu near an exclusive hotel along Ahmadu Bello Way, Bauchi, while he was in possession of the stolen vehicle.

“During interrogation, the suspect confessed to conspiring with two others, identified as Sani alias Mulmule and Abdullahi alias Abdul, both from Gombe State, to steal the vehicle at Tsohuwar Kasuwa, Gombe State,” Wakil added.

He noted that the investigation is still ongoing and that the suspect will be transferred to the Gombe State Police Command for further action.

Wakil also cited the state’s Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, who urged stakeholders and residents to cooperate with the police, emphasising that security is a shared responsibility essential for maintaining peaceful coexistence.
