A grieving man has accused medical personnel at the General Hospital, Etinan, of negligence after his sister, identified as Rehoboth Clement Okon, reportedly died during childbirth.

According to the man’s statement, Rehoboth, who was diagnosed with pre-eclampsia, was admitted to the facility but allegedly failed to receive urgent medical attention.

He claimed that the doctor on call refused to show up to attend to her despite repeated calls from the attending nurse.

Instead of performing an emergency cesarean section, hospital staff allegedly induced labor for several hours, during which the unborn baby died. He further alleged that the hospital pharmacy was closed, there was no blood supply available, and necessary drugs had to be sourced outside the facility, causing delays that worsened her condition.

The man stated that a midwife handled the delivery and attempted to stabilize the patient but could not stop the excessive bleeding. The doctor reportedly arrived only after the woman had already died

“On the 16th of August 2025 my sister Rehoboth Clement died out of negligence.
His Excellency Governor Pastor Umo Eno PhD, the Doctor that was suppose to be on call at General hospital Etinan refused to show up for a pregnant woman with Pre-eclampsia,The Baby died inside her, instead of them to conduct an emergency Cs, they induced her for hours, the baby died inside her and she bled to death, there was no blood on stand by, no drugs, the hospital pharmacy was close, before they could go outside to buy drugs the girl was weak, the midwife did all the delivery and stitching.
Even when she has cervical bleeding and the nurse kept calling the Doctor, but he refused to come, he showed up when she had bled to death.
