Man accused of stealing bells, drums from Ekiti church – Daily Trust


The Ekiti State police command has arraigned 45-year-old Joshua Pius before a Chief Magistrate Court in Ado-Ekiti for allegedly stealing bells and drums from a church.

The prosecutor, Inspector Olubu Apata, told the court that on August 12 at about 11:30 am, the defendant and others, who are currently at large, broke into a church on Embassy Island, Agric Olope, in Ado-Ekiti to commit the crime.

Inspector Apata said the defendant stole a set of drums, a standing fan, two jingle bells, a trumpet, and a generator, all valued atN560,000 and belonging to the church’s founder, Pastor Adewumi Oluwasumibola.

The prosecutor added that the offence is contrary to and punishable under Sections 421, 321, 295, and 302 (9) of the Ekiti State Criminal Law of 2021.

The defendant, who was not represented by counsel, pleaded not guilty.

The Magistrate, Ajibade P. T., granted him bail in the sum of N00,000 with one surety. The case was adjourned until August 27, for hearing.
