She wrote, “60 Years on Stage | 83rd Pictures ✨

“What a journey it has been — 60 years of grace, passion, and dedication on stage, captured beautifully in my 83rd pictures. None of this would have been possible without an amazing team that brought this vision to life.”

Born on October 16, 1942, in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, Phillips attended African Methodist School and Anglican Modern School for her primary and secondary education.

Her stage name, “Iya Rainbow,” comes from “Osumare” (meaning “rainbow” in English), the name of Sir Hubert Ogunde’s theatre group.

She worked for several years as a healthcare assistant while occasionally acting in theatre, before transitioning to full-time acting following the death of her husband, Augustine Ayanfemi Phillips, who collaborated closely with Ogunde.

Over her long career, Idowu Phillips has appeared in numerous Nigerian films, including Apaadi, Eru, and Aje ni iya mi. She is also a mother of five.
