Former Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami SAN, has been released by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) after several hours of questioning at the agency’s headquarters in Abuja.
Malami, who honoured an invitation extended by the anti-graft agency earlier on Friday, confirmed his release in a personally signed statement circulated to journalists.
“In line with my undertaking to keep Nigerians updated on my invitation by the EFCC, I give glory to Allah for His divine intervention,” the statement read.
“The engagement was successful and I am eventually released while on an appointment for further engagement as the truth relating to the fabricated allegations against me continue to unfold,” he added.
Sources familiar with the matter said the former AGF was questioned over allegations bordering on his tenure as Attorney-General during the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
Specific details of the allegations have not been officially disclosed by the EFCC.Malami, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and two-term Attorney-General (2015–2023), left the EFCC premises in the evening and was seen departing in his personal vehicle.
Neither the EFCC nor Malami’s legal team has indicated when he is expected to return for the next scheduled engagement.
The development has sparked fresh conversations on social media about the ongoing scrutiny of high-profile figures from the immediate past administration.
