Makinde in Last-Minute Talks with Lamido to Save PDP Convention

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde is in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) engaging in urgent reconciliation efforts to ensure the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) national convention proceeds as planned in Ibadan on November 15 and 16.

The convention, set for Adamasingba Stadium, has faced strong opposition from key party chieftains over zoning disputes, consensus candidacy, and legal challenges.

Impeccable sources close to the governor revealed that Makinde arrived in Abuja on Wednesday evening to hold high-level talks with aggrieved leaders.

On Friday, November 14, Makinde met with former Jigawa Governor and PDP chieftain, Alhaji Sule Lamido, at the latter’s Abuja office.

The governor was accompanied by Senator Abdulahmed Ningi (Bauchi), PDP Deputy National Chairman Ambassador Taofeek Oladejo Arapaja, and other senior party figures.

The delegation arrived around noon and was warmly received by Lamido. Sources described the discussion as “frank and productive,” with indications that Lamido responded positively to Makinde’s appeal for unity.

Makinde is also scheduled to meet former Senate President Dr. Bukola Saraki and other dissenting leaders before returning to Ibadan on Friday night to oversee final convention preparations.

Despite a court order from Abuja halting the event and a counter-ruling from Oyo State allowing it, the PDP insists the convention will go ahead.

Party leaders say Makinde’s shuttle diplomacy is critical to preventing a boycott and ensuring a united front.
