LUTH unveils new projects to boost healthcare delivery

The Chief Medical Director of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Professor Wasiu Adeyemo, yesterday inaugurated six new projects as part of activities marking his one year in office.

The projects, funded by the federal government, included the renovation of the central laboratory encompassing haematology, blood transfusion, and clinical pathology units.

Other projects were the construction of a staff cafeteria, an extension of the urological theatre equipped with state-of-the-art microscopic surgery apparatus, and the refurbishment of paediatric and adult surgical wards to accommodate increased patient capacity.

Reflecting on his tenure as Chief Medical Director, Professor Adeyemo outlined three key objectives: addressing abandoned projects, implementing his strategic vision, and aligning with the federal government’s healthcare agenda.

He attributed the execution of the projects to collaborative efforts and support from stakeholders.

Adeyemo hailed the federal government for the substantial investment in the past few years towards the infrastructural renewal of hospitals across the nation.

He commended the Ministry of Health, led by Professor Muhammad Ali Pate and Dr. Tunji Alausa, for complementing government funding through special allocations dedicated to healthcare institutions.

Adeyemo emphasized the hospital’s collaboration with Lagos University to expand medical and paramedical training programmes, aligning with the government’s objective to produce more healthcare professionals.
