Lt Col Awwal Isa has made history as Nigeria’s first Associate Professor of Intelligence and Security.
Isa, who hails from Taraba State, is the pioneer Head of the Department of Intelligence and Security Science at the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), Kaduna.
In a statement shared by Barrister Yakubu Kaku, Isa’s academic and professional journey was described as a remarkable blend of scholarship and service.

Isa holds Bsc Political Science , University of Maiduguri, a Master’s degree in International Relations from the University of Abuja, and a Master of Arts in Security and Intelligence Studies from the University of Buckingham, United Kingdom. Driven by a deep passion for intelligence studies, he earned his PhD in Security and Intelligence Studies from University of Buckingham, United Kingdom.
“Lt Col Awwal Isa’s elevation is a groundbreaking achievement, not only for the Nigerian Defence Academy but also for the entire nation’s security education sector,” the statement read.
Isa is a Fellow of the Institute of Intelligence and National Security and a member of the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN).
Barrister Kaku congratulated Isa on his achievement, describing him as “a trailblazer whose contribution will continue to shape the future of intelligence education in Nigeria.”
