The Labour Party (LP) has described the late Senator representing Enugu North, Okey Ezea, as one of its finest members and a distinguished voice in the National Assembly.
In a statement titled: “Ezea Was One of Our Finest”, Interim National Chairman Senator Nenadi Usman expressed profound shock and sorrow over the lawmaker’s passing.
“I received with rude shock the news of the passing of Distinguished Senator Okey Ezea, who represented the people of Enugu North senatorial district in the 10th Senate,” Usman said.
She described Senator Ezea as a dedicated public servant and patriot, noting that he consistently offered quality and purposeful representation to his constituents.
“In the Senate, he was a patriot whose dedication was evident in the bills he sponsored and the many motions he moved in pursuit of national progress and development. He will be sorely missed by the nation and, in a very special way, by the Labour Party family, whose flag he flew with honour and unwavering loyalty,” she added.
Usman further highlighted Senator Ezea’s commitment to the Labour Party, emphasizing that he remained steadfast despite pressures from various quarters. “Until his passing, he stood as the only Labour Party member in the National Assembly from Enugu State who, on principle, kept faith with the party that entrusted him with that mandate,” she said.
Consoling his family, Usman urged them to take comfort in his enduring legacy.
“As we mourn this painful loss and celebrate his remarkable contributions to our nation’s political evolution, may God accept his noble soul and grant his family the strength to bear this irreparable loss,” she concluded.
