The Labour Party (LP) has described the late Afenifere leader, Chief Ayo Adebanjo as a fearless statesman who stood for justice.

LP, in a letter of tribute by its Director General, Directorate of Mobilisation and Integration, Marcel Ngogbehei, said as a supporter of progressive governance, Adebanjo stood for the Labour Party and its vision for a new Nigeria.

Ngogbehei said Chief Adebanjo’s unwavering commitment to democracy, the rule of law, and the restructuring of Nigeria was the hallmark of his lifelong struggle for a better nation.

“With a deep sense of loss but immense gratitude to God for a life well spent, we at the Labour Party Directorate of Mobilization and Integration extend our heartfelt condolences to the entire Yoruba race, the leadership and members of Afenifere, and Nigerians at large on the passing of an icon of democracy, justice, and progressive ideals — Pa Ayo Adebanjo.

“Pa Adebanjo was not just a leader; he was a fearless statesman, a principled nationalist, and a tireless advocate for truth, fairness, and good governance. His unwavering commitment to democracy, the rule of law, and the restructuring of Nigeria was the hallmark of his lifelong struggle for a better nation.

“He remained steadfast in his belief that Nigeria must be built on justice, equity, and inclusivity—principles that define the progressive movement we continue to champion.

“Even in his later years, his voice never wavered in the face of injustice. He remained a guiding light, offering wisdom, courage, and leadership at a time when our nation needed it most. His fearless stance in speaking truth to power and his dedication to ensuring a Nigeria that works for all will forever be etched in our collective memory.

“As a firm supporter of progressive governance, Pa Adebanjo stood by the Labour Party and our vision for a new Nigeria. His belief in the power of the people and his advocacy for genuine leadership inspired many, and his contributions to the struggle for a just and fair society will never be forgotten”, the statement noted.

Ngogbehei however, reiterated the party’s solidarity with Nigerians and the Yoruba nation as they mourn and bid farewell to the icon who according to the LP, distinguished himself by speaking truth to power.

“To the Yoruba nation, we grieve with you. To Nigerians across all regions, we stand in solidarity as we bid farewell to a true patriot. As we mourn his passing, we also celebrate his extraordinary legacy—one that will continue to inspire generations to come.

“The Labour Party under the leadership of Barr. Julius Abure, the NEC and entire members of the Directorate of Mobilization and Integration (DMI) deeply appreciates the overwhelming support from the Yoruba people and Nigerians at large in our collective journey to reclaim our nation from the forces of injustice and retrogression.

“We remain committed to the ideals that Pa Adebanjo lived and fought for, and we will continue to honor his legacy through our unwavering pursuit of a new Nigeria,” he added.
