Lookman left out of Atalanta squad for Serie A opener

Atalanta have officially confirmed their 23-man squad for Sunday’s Serie A opener against newly-promoted Pisa, with Ademola Lookman omitted following his failed push for a summer exit.

The Nigeria international had a €45m offer from Inter turned down earlier in the window and subsequently submitted a transfer request, accusing the club of breaking promises and mistreating him both professionally and personally.

Atalanta CEO Luca Percassi later clarified that Lookman was permitted to leave only if a suitable proposal arrived from a top club outside Serie A.

Instead, the forward took an unauthorised two-week absence in the UK while waiting for Inter to act, but the Nerazzurri ultimately abandoned the deal and moved for midfielder Andy Diouf instead.

Lookman has since been training separately from the squad and will play no part in Atalanta’s opening fixture.
