Following the accident that claimed the lives of five students on Monday at Felele, the Federal University Lokoja has declared two days of mourning.
This was contained in a circular signed on Tuesday by Vincent Ifedayo Ojo, the deputy registrar, Human Resources of the university.
The circular said, “It is with heavy hearts that we announce the tragic loss of five of our promising students, who were taken away from us too soon in a fatal trailer accident.
“This wanton loss of lives is one accident too many, leaving our university community in deep sorrow and grief.
“In honour of the departed souls and as a mark of respect, the university management has declared lecture-free days effective from 12 noon on Tuesday, 18th February and all-day Wednesday, 19th February 2025.”
According to the circular, all university activities would be observed on a low-key, while the institution’s flag will fly at half-mast as a symbol of respect for the departed.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with their families, friends, and the entire university community during this difficult time. May God grant them merciful judgement and rest their souls in eternal peace,” the circular stated.
Recall that on Monday afternoon, an articulated trailer carrying woods, palm oil and other items, rammed into a university shuttle bus conveying students to the Felele campus of the institution in Lokoja killing five students and the driver of the bus.
