Liverpool have completed a £130million agreement with Newcastle United for striker Alexander Isak, making it the second British transfer record the Reds have smashed this summer.
The Swedish international, 25, is travelling to Merseyside for his medical after forcing through the move with a public stance that he would not play for Newcastle again.
The saga escalated after Newcastle rejected Liverpool’s earlier £110m offer, prompting Isak to go on strike and accuse the club of breaking promises in a social media statement.
Despite Newcastle insisting he was not for sale, co-owner Jamie Reuben and representatives of the Public Investment Fund eventually softened their position, accepting Liverpool’s improved bid late on deadline day.
Liverpool will pay £125m up front, with the remaining £5m covered through solidarity payments, taking the total package to £130m.
Isak is set to sign a six-year deal at Anfield, with reports suggesting he even prepared for his unveiling by getting a haircut ahead of his presentation.
The move follows Liverpool’s £116.5m capture of Florian Wirtz earlier in the window, as the reigning champions continue their summer rebuild.
Newcastle, meanwhile, have already secured German striker Nick Woltemade for £69m, but their pursuit of Wolves’ Jorgen Strand Larsen and Brentford’s Yoane Wissa is stalling with the deadline hours away.
