Lions Clubs Takes Pediatric Cancer Awareness Programme To Lagos School, Donates Educational Materials

Maryland Golden, Lagos- British and Lagos Indiana Lions Clubs, Zone 6C District 404B2 Nigeris, Lions Club International have taken childhood cancer awareness programme to Bola Memorial Primary School, Ikeja.

The clubs also donated educational materials such as; school bags, exercise books, pencils, biro, mathematical sets, water bottle among other goodies to pupils of the school.

Dr. Olatubosun Salami of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) spoke to the pupils on the causes and prevention of cancer in children, stressing that early detection can save lives.

Lion Tolulope Senbanjo, the District Governor 404B2 while speaking said that the Clubs was at the school to show love.

He said that the project is a joint project  by three clubs in the district namely;  Maryland Golden, Lagos Indiana and Lagos -British Lions Clubs who partnered to donate school and educational material to pupils of the school.

“Lions are known for service and that is what we will continue to do, we will continue to serve, we have eight global courses at Lions Club International namely; vision, diabetic, hunger relief, environment, pediatrics cancer, youth empowerment, disaster relief and humanitarian efforts.

“We  will continue to serve along all these areas and  we will not relent. Our core project is to build a food bank in Lagos and we are not relenting on that project, we will continue to push to ensure that we complete that in the nearest time,” he added

Also, Lion Adedeji Olukokun, Zone Chairperson for Zone 6c that comprises of Lagos Indiana based in America, Lagos- British  based in UK, Lagos shining star, and Maryland Golden based in Lagos noted that the project is a two in one joint project.

He said that the first part of the project is the pediatric cancer awareness which is one of the global focus of the Lions International.

“What we have come here to do today is to sensitise the pupils and staff and even Lions to get the understanding and know more about this ailments and most importantly to preach early detection because we want to preserve life; that is why the Lions International has set this campaign aside to be one of our areas.”

The other part according to him, is the donation of educational materials.

“One of the things we do most importantly is the support for  education. We provided writing materials,  and everything that will make these pupils to learn more and improve their educational pursuits,” he said.

 Lion Hassan Olapeju, the Charter President of Maryland Golden Lions Club said that this is the inaugural project for the club and the Lagos- British Lions Club in the UK.

She pointed out that the school was chosen because it falls within her jurisdiction and because it is an inclusive school which has pupils with special needs.

Hassan further promised that the Club will do more for the school especially in the office it’s Special Unit.

Cecelia Sipeolu, the head teacher of the school appreciated the clubs for the gesture, stressing that the school has a long standing relationship with the club.
